UHF, association for the contemporary investigation and divulgation
The UHF group sprung up as a forum for dissemination and researching strictly contemporary subjects, to open up a channel for retroactive communication between the publication and its surroundings.
Our way of coming to grips with the different themes has always started on a-hierarchical, counter-architectural approach, with much interest in the output of Schools (especially in end-of-course design projects, thesis and competitions) and professional designs that often fail to get very far off the drawing board. We found our niche on the peripheries of other publications, trying to publicise both more experimental work and the “dirty” architecture produced for market consumption. In both extremes, we try to see attitudes and strategies that, when superimposed, enable us to understand in their full complexity the new modes of this discipline.
UHF sees itself as the materialisation of a way of understanding Architecture, from a standpoint halfway between market orientation and experimental architecture. We construct it through super-impositions, contradictions and ambiguities in which designs based on deeply opposed views are intermingled in an unexpected manner, under the umbrella title given to each issue (UHF01_reform, inner city, sunny; UHF02_livable stages; UHF03_maps; UHF03+_Timba Gostosa do mapas; UHF04_L. Murdoch Fontana)
At present UHF is made up of a team of architects, students from the School of Architecture of Madrid, and other professionals who identify themselves as members of a generation educated by the media, and more specifically, by TV. Thus, we may refer to a “channel”, the UHF station, open to interference from other different disciplines.
